Health Experts Discuss Risks Linked to Nicotine-Free Vapes

Posted on June 26, 2025

You thus sneaked your cigarettes into a vape because you thought that it is much less dangerous than smoking. However, a new damning study indicates that vaping may affect vascular functions adversely, even in situations where the vaper does not use nicotine, which puts one at risk of heart disease and poor circulation.

Conventional cigarettes are full of toxic chemicals, tar as well as carcinogens that are thousands in number. Even though vaping gets rid of most of them, the notion that zero- nicotine e vapes are completely harmless is being put in question now.

In case you have never used a cigarette in your life, taking up vape even nicotine free, presents unnecessary risks to your system as per a recently conducted study.

The scientists contrasted the outcomes of nicotine-free vaping with the ordinary vaping or even with traditional cigarettes.

However, before we provide you with the outrageous findings, it is necessary to have a clear idea of what vaping is all about.

What is the meaning of vaping?
Vapes, also referred to as e-cigarettes, are electrically powered gadgets that heat a solution so as to generate an aerosol (or vapor) that is huffed. Unlike regular cigarette smoking, where one burns tobacco and lets thousands of chemicals go into the air, vapes do not involve smoking or inhaling tobacco smoke or tar hence the assumption that they will be safer.

The juice
External sources of the information: E-liquid or vape juice is composed of propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin which produce the dense smoke the users emit. These ingredients are good to consume yet when used in breathing, it is very different.

These substances, when heated, break down to form dangerous byproducts which can aggravate airways and the lung leading to the following:

Chronic coughing
Difficult breathing
Lung inflammation
Yummy flavors

The sweet, tasty, fruity, minty, or even desert-like flavor that is making vaping so awesome is mostly composed of toxic chemicals. These are some of the chemicals:

Diacetyl: It is associated with a severe lung illness called as popcorn lung
Benzaldehyde: This is frequently used as flavoring and can also cause irritation of the respiratory system
Heavy metals: Lead, nickel, and tin along with smaller traces of heavy metals can be released by vape coils into the vapor

Although nicotine is absent, with time, the damage and inflammation of the lungs can occur even upon inhalation of these substances.

Dr. Michael Blaha of John Hopkins Medicine said, You are putting yourself in the way of all sorts of chemicals that we do not know much about, and are likely not safe.

Popular habit

The use of vaping is increasing and John Hopkins reports that more than 2 million U.S middle and high schoolers had used e-cigarettes in 2021 and more than> 8 out of 10 of those youth used flavored e-cigarettes.

Blaha said what concerns him the most about the increased popularity of vaping is that people who otherwise would not have smoked are adopting the habit, particularly the youth. It is another matter when you quit smoking cigarettes and use vapes. It is an entirely different matter to initiate nicotine use using vaping. And, becoming addicted to nicotine will likely end up with resorting to the traditional tobacco products in the future.”

Shocking results
Researchers in the 2024 study wanted to see whether the base liquids and flavoring chemicals in which they engaged in vaping might have harmful effects to health after all.

In order to compare this, researchers drew parallels:

Nicotine-free vapes
Nicotine-containing vapes
Traditional cigarettes

Amazingly, all three influenced blood vessel functioning negatively, which is to say that smoking had nothing to do with nicotine when regarding implementing vaping risks.

In particular, the researchers state that the impairment in vascular function was the highest after inhaling e-cigarettes with nicotine and then e-cigarettes with no nicotine.

On the basis of the researcher Dr. Marianna Nabbout, the study provides a way of pointing out the acute consequences on a variety of vascular beds that the human body may experience as a result of smoking and vaping.

What is more important, “when the effect of the acute use of an e-cigarette is able to produce an effect that will be immediately registered at the vascular level, it is possible that the long-run use can lead to a vascular pathology.”

Have you been vaping, because you considered it a harmless way to replace smoking? Then you might want to reconsider after reading this latest study!

So, what do you think vaping? We would like to hear your opinion, and then re-share this story to make people aware of the health consequences, associated with vaping!
