She has gone to the lengths of singing strapped on a crucifix during her Confessions Tour.
She was mocked when she did her Blonde Ambition tour by Pope John Paul II who described it as being one of the most Satanic shows in the history of mankind and her next tour in 2006 which was titled Confessions was described by Cardinal Ersilio Tonini (the guardian) as being a blasphemous challenge to the priesthood and a desecration of the cross.

Madonna had earlier appealed to Pope Francis three years ago in a bid to reconcile with the Catholic church.
In a Twitter (now turned X), the singer posted saying: I am a good Catholic. I swear! I mean I do not Swear! My confession was several decades ago.
Could we have a meeting one day and chat about certain business issues? I am excommunicated three times. It does not appear to be fair. Sincerely, Madonna.”
