The aircraft was flying nearby Ahmedabad Airport in India.
This occurred at about 30 seconds following takeoff. The contact with the aircraft was also lost during takeoff. Air India shortly after confirmed that involved was their Boeing 787-8 with flight number AI171.

Reports in India indicate that the plane crashed in a hostel block inhabited by medical students.
The first pilot was Sumeet Sabharwal and beside him was his second pilot Clive Kundar.
The pair sounded the alarm relating to the horrific crash, and the heartbreaking news has now been released.
The last chilling mayday message that Sabharwal sent to ATC was, “Mayday… no thrust, losing power, unable to lift.
The Mirror also reports that Sabharwal had clocked 8,200 hours of flight experience of which the co-pilot Clive Kundar had 1,100 hours of flying experience.
The crash of a Boeing 787 is the first of its kind and the cause of the crash is still under investigation.
