Mom Finds Peace in Baby’s Ultrasound: ‘It Looked Like a Hand Holding Him’

Posted on June 27, 2025

The ultrasound picture is one of the greatest consolations and peace brought by a recent ultrasound picture according to a Kentucky mother in a phenomenal story that has inspired many.

Amanda Foster 33 years old is set to avail herself of the fourth child, a boy named Kyler. In April, 2022, she posted a photo of an ultrasound on facebook, and before long it was going viral, not only because of the medical news, but because of what she and her daughter are positive she looks like she sees in the image: what looks like a hand, soft and cradling the unborn baby.

On this pregnancy, Foster says the pregnancy has been an emotional one. She previously lost her first son, Xavier, when he was only 20 weeks old because of a very rare and life threatening condition, known as Potter syndrome, which interferes with the formation of the kidneys of a baby. She was devastated by the loss and later realized that the condition is visible more in male babies.

Nevertheless the heartbreak did not stop Amanda and her husband Kyle who welcomed two healthy daughters in their family. They gave a birth to a son, Jay, in August, 2022; he was not born with Potter syndrome, had healthy kidneys and was well developed.

This time around, Amanda is having another boy and claims that this time around has had its difficulties. Preliminary findings indicated the presence of a condition of the heart, and further monitoring was done regularly as well as under high-risk situations. Every time before an ultrasound, Amanda reports that she prayed to be strong and want her baby to remain healthy.

Recently, her daughter Bailey took her to the appointment, and during this appointment, she made an inconspicuous observation. Bailey stood at the ultrasound monitor and told me, “And whose hand?”. A shape similar to that of a huge hand is seen in the picture, it looks like it has tenderly caressed the head of the baby.

Amanda posted the photo and the story in Facebook, describing it as a strong moment that made her feel thankful. It takes the shape of a hand that holds his head in one of the photographs, she wrote. It made me cry with the thought that I have had all the assistance and sheltering of my son.

Ever since, Amanda posted updates about the development of her baby boy. At week 36, 20 June, Kyler is doing pretty well, weighing more than 7 pounds. She wrote: he is our fat baby! Today his respirations were followed. His pulse rate was good. I cannot wait bringing him in my arms.

To Amanda, the ultrasound picture has taken a very hopeful path; serving as reinforcement that one can recover after a loss, and that strength can be drawn through any circumstance.

Scores of viewers on the Internet have come up with their own meanings and words of encouragement following the image. Some approach it symbolically, whereas the others think of a warming tale of the faith and strength of a mother.
