Since the last Keith Urban residency show was already one to be remembered, Nicole Kidman’s involvement made it even more extraordinary. On the Saturday evening just before the finale, Nicole turned up and gave everyone in the crowd a huge thrill.
While he was performing, Keith saw Nicole jog out excitedly with a big smile. There was a huge applause from the crowd and Keith was full of joy. With a smile on his face, he looked into the microphone and punched, “Hello, may I know your name?” What place are you from?”
She responded, “I am Nicole Urban,” at which point everyone laughed which won her instant recognition as the surprise guest.
A JACKET IS SAFE, BUT REQUIRES RESCUE
Nicole didn’t join the group just to get attention; she had a real purpose for being there. She said: “Can I get your jacket, the black one you put down earlier?” You left it just on the floor!”
The two walked on the stage looking for the jacket that had been taken by a crew member. Keith jokingly accused his guitar tech of stealing the instrument and it got even more people laughing. After their search, Keith put Nicole’s jacket over her and the way they reacted seemed just like a heartwarming movie moment—simple, unplanned and touching.
She said to me, “Don’t forget your jacket,” and I replied, “There’s no way for me to lose it.” The crowd in the audience watched as Keith chuckled and enjoyed together with him.
After one door has closed, another one opens.
Keith’s Vegas shows, played when Adele’s were canceled, ended on Sunday with an emotional send-off. The shows sold out which re-energized live country music after a lengthy pause because of the pandemic.
One night, we got a call from somebody in panic, wondering if we could take part in some additional shows, Keith told PEOPLE TV. “Things ended up very well,” or “It all turned out perfectly.”
Now that his run in Vegas is over, Keith can’t wait to get out on the road for another U.S. tour. Recently, he said: “I’m as excited as a caged animal waiting to be released and I can’t wait to connect with my fans.”
NICOLE AND KEITH: A LOVE THAT GLEAMS
Nicole continues to support Keith fully and he does the same for her. Since 2006, when they wed, the couple have raised Sunday Rose (13) and Faith Margaret (11) and their love is as strong away from the cameras as it is when fans watch them on stage. In a candid conversation on CBS Mornings, she said meeting Keith well into their lives was without a doubt the greatest gift she’s received.
Their love is visible through the ordinary gestures they do for each other. Earlier, he didn’t sleep at all, flying from Vegas to be at the Oscars ceremony where Nicole was nominated for Best Actress for Being the Ricardos.
Nicole said on the red carpet, “He arrived at 1 a.m. so he could support me.” That’s just what we do to take care of each other.
No matter what new chapter Keith starts, it’s obvious that Nicole is his main player, no matter if she steals his jacket or the spotlight with her charming personality.
