Dealing with cockroaches in your home is never fun because they keep coming back. They seem to show up all of a sudden and can be tough to remove after settling down. One reason it’s tough to manage them is that their favorite conditions include dark, warm and food sections, found a lot in kitchens.
The space behind appliances, gaps in cabinets and below and inside sinks is where they like to hide. After getting something to eat and a place to stay, cockroaches will quickly produce many more of their kind, changing a small pest problem into a major infestation very fast.
Many chemical products designed for killing cockroaches are available, yet a lot of people do not like using them in homes with children or pets. Thankfully, there’s an easy way to get rid of cockroaches using items you already have at home. For this solution, you first make toothpaste bait using materials found at home along with a few more basic supplies.
You should use three tablespoons of sugar, four of flour, three tablespoons of toothpaste and three tablespoons of water in your natural cockroach bait. Put all these ingredients together in a bowl and stir well until nothing is in clumps. Cover your hands with flour, remove little balls from the mixture and roll them into small balls about the size of marbles or large peas.
You should then distribute these bait balls in cockroach hotspots. Inspect dark places, under the sink, behind appliances like the fridge, near the stove or where you see droppings or shed skins. Insects are drawn to the bait by its sugar, so they will head in to investigate. When they bite the bait, the toothpaste does its job. Using toothpaste will introduce substances, especially fluoride, that disturbs the insects and results in fewer of them.
To achieve the best outcome, this process should be done around two to three times each week. If you frequently change the bait, it helps attract more cockroaches, as well as drive out any that have been hiding in the room. Over a period of use, you may find that cockroaches become less active in your home. This technique is simple, inexpensive and uses no chemicals, so you can take care of this typical problem using items you likely have around your home.
