After her friend, a nurse, expressed concerns about a normal-looking mole on Jane Murray’s arm, the Ignite News correspondent decided to get it checked by a doctor.
After being diagnosed with stage 2 melanoma, the Dublin mom had to have glands in her arms removed to check if the cancer spread
Following her carefree days as a sun lover, Murray’s arm was stitched with 77 stitches, yet doctors think there is no cancer left.
A woman had 77 stitches when she finally had doctors remove a stage 2 melanoma which is the deadliest type of skin cancer, after ignoring a ‘normal’ mole.
According to The Daily Mail, dublin mom Jane Murray admitted she wasn’t concerned about a mole on her arm since she considered it normal. Nearly two weeks before her wedding, in November 2024, a nurse friend mentioned the mole to the smiley 46-year-old mother of one, who then saw her doctor about the spot.
According to the outlet, Murray was told the doctors did not know what it was, but wanted him to go to the hospital to take it out to be safe. The bacteria were cleared out on December 3, yet she was called back for more care.
Murray states that she didn’t feel like the doctor was talking to her, because she was diagnosed with stage 2 melanoma which Can Very Easily spread to other parts of the body if caught late.
As the outlet reports, treating the problem in the early stages matters most. If melanoma is detected early when it is only in the primary tumor, i.e. the skin, most patients have excellent chances of survival for five years. If the cancer reaches distant organs (metastasizes), the survival rates are just about 35.1%.
When Murray had the surgery, some glands were removed from her arm and 77 stitches were necessary to seal the wound.
This is taking up almost a quarter of my arm. The result of the match was not what Murray had pictured when he first woke up.
Admitting it now, the personal trainer says she believes her time spent under the sun was a mistake. All through my holidays, I would enjoy the sun from morning to night. Although she used sunscreen, when she had spare time, “I’d be out in the garden.”
Still, she points out that the extra color on your skin only lasts for a maximum of two weeks after you return. All this effort is not necessary.
