A miracle takes place with every new birth of a child. Something that makes a big difference to their lives, something they’ll never forget becoming parents. Sometimes, it comes to pass that a miracle takes such a rare and strange turn, even the doctors are left without words.
Bethani and Tim Webb from Hythe, Alberta, always had their hearts set on becoming parents. They got together in 2013, and barely two years later, they wed in June 2015. It was only in September 2015, three months after their wedding, when they realized Bethani was pregnant. All was good until a regular ultrasound brought a major shift to our plan.
During the appointment, the nurse was unable to move as she looked at what was shown on the monitor. After that, she looked at the couple with a look of surprise. Two babies would have been too few in Bethani’s womb, as she was carrying four. Four identical baby girls. The pregnancy took place without any help from fertility treatments and without a history of twins in the family. The odds of this happening? About one in 15 million.
“I could not believe it. I was in such shock. I actually thought the ultrasound tech was teasing me,” Bethani said in a later interview with CBS News.
At the age of 33 weeks, Bethani delivered her baby girl by C-section. All four girls were delivered in good health: Abigail, McKayla, Grace, and Emily. Telling them apart? Not so easy. Since all four babies looked the same, the couple solved the problem by painting the babies’ toenails in different colors.
Quadruplets make for quite a different and unique lifestyle. I pretty much spend all my time doing diaper duty, as on average, the twins use 48 each day. Having four children meant that the tasks, such as feeding and paying, all became more challenging. The Webbs soon found that they had to join forces with others.
Their community in the small town played an important role in getting them through the crisis. Each week, volunteers came to help the family, and thanks to local donations, they got a bigger car for their bigger family. For some time, the sisters made their home with Tim’s mom, who was really happy to experience those early stages of their lives.
It is very impressive, since we couldn’t do it without the help of ProQuest, Bethani pointed out.
At times, things got really hard, there were nights I didn’t sleep, and there were total meltdowns. Yet, the Webbs constantly felt thankful for what they had. Though everything could feel overwhelming to them, they stayed true to a simple fact: they were blessed.
Life can throw us challenges at times, yet it often shows us marvelous things too. Even when things go another way than we planned, the story of the Webbs proves it can turn out better than we ever imagined.
