Bobby Sherman was the face that drove the hearts crazy across America — a 60’s teenage idol, whose pictures covered walls of thousands of teenage bedrooms. Then it was like everybody was crushing on him.
However, now, many decades after reaching stardom, there is heartbreaking news, and it is straight from the person who knows him best.
Sherman’s wife has opened up and shared that the loved singer and actor has been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer.
In the 60’s, Bobby Sherman wasn’t simply a pop sensation, but also he was the teen idol. With his brilliant smile, lovely eyes, and gold charted hits such as “Little Woman”, and “Easy Come, Easy Go”, Sherman swept an entire generation off their feet. He wasn’t just a voice in the radio but always present on the television screen on such shows like The Partridge Family and Shindig!, covers of magazines, and bedroom walls. People didn’t just like him, they worshipped him.
However, after these many years since his hey days, fans are grieved to learn that their once swooning star is up to the toughest battle of his life.
Bobby’s wife, Brigitte Poublon first broke the shattering news in a heartfelt Facebook post on March 25: the 81-year-old singer and actor has been diagnosed of stage 4 cancer. Although she did not reveal the type at the time, her words were full of sorrow as well as gratitude.
With a heavy heart, “It is with a heavy heart that we share Bobby has recently been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer,” she wrote. “It is difficult time, and we would like to ask for your understanding and respect to our privacy”.
Bobby Sherman type of cancer
In April, Brigitte disclosed her husband’s particular diagnosis. kidney cancer, which she tragically announced has ” spread everywhere’.
In a recent interview with Fox News Digital, Brigitte did not sugarcoat the ugly picture. She let it out that the previous unstoppable pop icon is terminally ill and “at home with special care”.
‘He was doing crossword puzzles with me in the last few days’, she said. “And next moment Saturday, he turns around and …. he’s just sleeping more and his body is not working anymore. It’s not. Everything’s shutting down.”
Sherman, 81, had retired officially last year but was still involved in dealing with fans in that he was signing autographs. And even that has now practically grown impossible.
“But now he can barely sign his name,” Brigitte explained and added that he wants “to be left in peace” and spend the last days and weeks with family and their five favorites dogs.
And in one very heart-rendering moment, she mentioned his last wish from the hospital. “His final statement from the hospital last night was- ‘Brig, I just want to go home’.”
Support from John Stamos
The fact that fans are showing so much of their love has been overpowering Brigitte said. “Many of them have been really good.” That support has also been offered to the couple’s close friends; including Full House star John Stamos who has stood there for the couple emotionally even if afar.
This was the first time that Stamos and Sherman met, after the actor became an ambassador for the Brigitte and Bobby Sherman Children’s Foundation, and from there, they became friends. “And we’ve been best friends ever [since]” – said Brigitte.
Although Stamos wished to come, Brigitte nicely stopped him from visiting Bobby, in his present condition. “I told him I don’t advise him to come in the room with Bobby at the moment”, she said. Rather, the actor sent a sincere video message to cheer up his friend.
Apart from the music and the fame, Bobby Sherman dedicated his life to service – not just by being a paramedic and a reserve officer of the LAPD. Brigitte and Bobby Sherman Children’s Foundation, an organization which is based on compassion and which is dedicated to helping kids in Ghana is one of the projects that Bobby co-founded together with Brigitte.
”It was our dream to do something for a Third World country” said Brigitte.
“We cleared up five and a half acres. We have a gigantic musical village with soup kitchens. We’re feeding more than 375 meals a day to our customers. we are going to top that up to 500. We have classrooms and computers and music room and pavilions. We send them to field trips, we pay for the college tuition”.
Married her idol crush
Through his heart and vision, the impact of Bobby is felt even though Bobby never made it to Africa. That has been our labor of love, Brigitte said. Bobby has never managed to go to Africa, he’s never done it. I was always paranoid of things being kind of sensitive at the time”.
Their story as a couple started way before the diagnosis for Brigitte, and it was her dream come true. “I got to meet my teen idol crush”,” she laughed.
She can recall the day she looked at his picture in People magazine, standing next to a friend. “And I saw… ‘You know what? He seems to be a great person.’
Shermana and Brigitte Poublon got married on the 18 th July 2010 in Las Vegas.
The reverberation of Bobby Sherman’s voice is still felt in the lives he’s changed–both as a performer and public server. And now, at this challenging stage of his life, people all over the world send him love, strength and, prayers, – a man who in his lifetime brought so much joy to them. Keep struggling Bobby, we are all thinking about you!
