Since not everyone saves money, not all spend sensibly and not all can even waste it, money is an intricate issue. One can find a handful of short stories about people who lost their money unexpectedly and in a surprising manner, in this collection.
The first story is about a guy I had worked with and was in a long-distance relationship with a girl he had never met live while. Suddenly she told him that she could fly to meet him in a month. It wasn’t something he had mentioned previously but at the time, he lived in his parents basement. In a panic, he found a new apartment apartment.
Then, from one of those furniture rental establishments, he rented a couch, tables, a dining set, a bedroom suite, a TV, and other furnishings for an entire apartment. The whole apartment was furnished with rental furniture, which is very expensive once you do not know. Finally the girl appeared after all this. She recommended him to terminate their relationship when they got to his apartment.
She wanted to meet him at least once but this time it would have been through a text. In her opinion, it wouldn’t be fair to him. She took the plane the next day after a night there. Apparently her visit to our city was only a long layover en route to a tour with friends in Europe.
He brought the rental couch to spend the night on, and she brought the rental bed to stay with. He used his rental car and so took her to the airport the next day. I am not sure as to the amount of money he disattered on that one break up date, but wow, what a waste. © Reddit/Aussydog
Second Story:
I chose to spend my $50k to convert my basement to a single-lane bowling alley in pursuit of a life dream. It appeared to be the best way of entertaining myself and having parties. But I found out that no one had any interest in bowling any additional games after the novelty wore off.
All I have now is a big, insistent reminder of my no discipline. Instead of using that piece of money creating gutter balls on my own at my basement, I could have enjoyed 20 amazing vacations.

I wasted my cash on a muscle-building complement “free trial”. I chose to work towards bettering my physical condition in my first year in college, but had no idea where to start. I got my free bottle in the mail after clicking on the advertisement that promised that it would help to put on muscles very fast but then I discovered some crazy charges on my card. They charged a subscription fee, but they did not charge for the original bottle.
I immediately rang the bank to block my card but by the time I did so, I had lost approximately $100 which was too expensive for a student. And as well, I had to insist to the representative that I wanted to be unsubscribed so that I stop receiving spam calls. © Reddit / Hoguera

An insurance company cheated me when I was a mere recent graduate. So tickled was I to be employed by anybody that I was played into thinking that I could make a differential by selling people insurance that they didn’t need/want.
I bought a textbook for a certification exam worth $350. Though I cleared the test, within a week I found that the company was a scam with cold calling, and a ridiculous script that would get us in trouble if we deviated from it.

Once, in one of the nights, I found myself locked out of my car. I did a Google search and dialed the first name that I found. I agreed when I got a quote of $60. When in need, I had to sell an extremely expensive camera that I’d bought with my first paycheck and that I treasured once the most (approximately $ 900). In reply to my email offer; a young man said he was interested but was on a business trip. He had vowed to pay for any extra cost and said it would be nice of me to ship it off to somewhere Africa.

I was organized a romantic weekend in a 5-star hotel by my boyfriend. All the way up to the point of checkout things were perfect. He felt embarrassed when his card was declined. Smiling I paid for our stay.
The receptionist had whispered to me secretly as we were leaving and cautioned me to be careful, she had seen this guy do the same thing with another woman before. He arrives and they pay for everything once his card is rejected. You’re a victim of fraud!
I chose not to trust her. I trusted him absolutely since I had no reason not to, and we were far from having a fully developed relationship. But with time he took up performing these same tricks more often. I realized that he was forcing me to pay for other expenses such as shopping excursions. Encouraging me by force to engage in a questionable investment scheme, he tried to rob me of my money, and that was the final straw.
I ended our relationship. Nevertheless, I can’t get that out of my mind and it is the beginning of everything and I would wish I had noted her during the stay at that hotel.
