Lip Reader Picks Up Prince Louis’ Hilarious Comment to Prince William at VE Day Event

Posted on May 7, 2025

During the 80th anniversary VE Day festivities in London, Prince Louis once again enchanted the country, demonstrating to everyone why he has grown to be the most lovable and approachable seven-year-old in the royal family.

Prince Louis, his older brother Prince George, and their father, Prince William, participated in the solemn but patriotic events as the United Kingdom paused to honor Victory in Europe Day, which marks the conclusion of World War II in Europe with Germany’s surrender. Despite the day’s stirring memorials, military parades, and moving tributes, young Louis once again stole the show—not with opulence, but with his innate humor and unguarded facial expressions.

Louis, who is well-known for his candid moments at public gatherings, did not let anyone down. He brought some humor to the otherwise somber situation with an eye-roll that was worthy of becoming a meme, in what has swiftly become his signature style. The founder of LipReader Ltd., professional lip reader Nicola Hickling, gave The Express her interpretations of the royal family’s interactions during the event.

In a famous conversation, Prince William allegedly said to Louis, “They are grabbing their bars, isn’t it great?” in an attempt to keep his kid interested in the show that was taking place. “They are marching straight,” Louis retorted with his usual dryness, obviously unimpressed by the pomp. When William inquired as to whether Louis had observed the soldiers turning or forming a line, the young prince merely said, “They’re going in a circle.”

Even though the exchange was short, it brilliantly encapsulated the relationship between a parent who is ready to communicate and a youngster who is deliciously honest about being bored—something that parents everywhere can identify with.

With a perfectly timed eye-roll and royal poise, Louis delivered a moment of subtle sarcasm that went viral. Reactions were all over social media. One person commented, “Oh, the baby brother eye roll,” on X (previously Twitter). I believe that Prince Louis’ shenanigans will hopefully continue for a very long time. “Prince Louis and his eye roll,” someone else joked. Haha!

It’s crucial to recognize the emotional environment Louis has been growing up in, even as he continues to offer these amusing glimpses into royal life.

In recent years, the young prince has experienced some trying family times, such as the death of his great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, and, most recently, the public disclosure of his mother, Catherine, Princess of Wales, who was battling cancer. Louis’ charisma, tenacity, and genuineness have made him even more popular in spite of these difficulties.

His actions show not only the purity of youth but also a friendly and approachable attitude, which is uncommon in public people, much less monarchs.

Prince Louis stands out as a welcome reminder that beneath the pomp and circumstance are actual people—and sometimes they’re seven years old, sardonic, and simply trying to understand why everyone is so thrilled about people marching in circles—as the royal family continues to deal with both private and public pressures.
