Trump Signs Executive Order Aimed at Reducing Healthcare Prices—What It Means for Patients

Posted on February 27, 2025

According to Donald Trump, this would benefit the American people.

Donald Trump has undoubtedly caused a stir since taking office again, and one of his most recent executive actions has the potential to drastically alter the healthcare sector.

Donald Trump issued the new executive order in the hopes that it will make costs more transparent for patients.

Patients can now compare the expenses of having treatment at different locations because insurers and healthcare providers are required to publicly reveal their rates.

Prices for medical care are currently typically discussed behind closed doors by physicians, hospitals, insurance companies, and pharmaceutical firms.

This action shows a more active approach to increasing compliance with regulations that Trump adopted in 2019 and that Biden threw out, and it has given Trump some support.

Earlier this week, in front of reporters, Donald Trump signed the new executive order while defending it.

According to him, it is among the most significant things that can be done to lower healthcare costs.

It doesn’t start right away, but Biden halted it as soon as he became office, which I thought was a horrible travesty.

In addition to starting up, we have strengthened it due to a few key elements.

“It permits people to go out and haggle over the price, and you are not even permitted to discuss it when you visit a hospital and see a doctor,” he added.

“You can go out and discuss it, and it’s actually one of the biggest because there are a few people who have been around for a long time who believe that this is the best way to reduce prices.”

Trump acknowledged that this decision has not been well received in certain quarters, but he insisted that it would benefit patients in the end.

“It’s not so good for pharmaceutical companies, the companies that make the drugs,” he said. “I guess you could say it’s not great for hospitals, but they say if you have a great hospital that really knows what it’s doing, it is actually great for the hospital because everyone wants to go there.”

Trump claimed that this will eventually result in reduced pricing, but organizations representing the insurance sector have countered that this is not the case. They have stated that cost-cutting measures would actually result in higher premiums.

Additionally, during Trump’s previous administration, hospital associations claimed that it was a violation of their First Amendment rights to disclose the costs of every good and service.

They said that when they spoke with insurers, the policy took away their ability to bargain over costs.
