Teen’s Mysterious Text Message Revealed as Part of Ongoing Case

Posted on August 22, 2025

People say that 22-year-old Gregory Groom stabbed Kylee Monteiro to death. She was only 18 years old and 11 weeks pregnant. They say he then buried her in his grandparents’ backyard and hid the crime by cutting down trees and bushes.

Monteiro had sent her sister a distressing text and reached out to her before she died in a horrific tragedy.

Last message
Kylee Monteiro sent her last message on August 7, when she was 18. She texted her sister Faith a frightened text explaining that her boyfriend had hurt her.

“He threw me to the ground, pulled my hair, and choked me,” she told the New York Post.

“My phone is down to 4 percent; if I die, it was Greg.”

The next morning, the groom went to the Rehoboth, Massachusetts police to report that Monteiro was missing.

He told the authorities that she had just finished a stay at a residential institution and had taken a rideshare to his residence on August 6, where she planned to stay. The groom stated they argued about where she would live, and then she ran away.

But it was clear that something was very wrong.

“I know there has been a lot of talk…”
Monteiro’s family became even more alarmed when the teen, who was known for being active on social media, abruptly stopped posting. CBS News stated that she told everyone on TikTok that she was pregnant and that Groom “treated her like gold.”

Faith Monteiro, Kylee’s sister, told reporters later, “I know there has been a lot of talk about domestic abuse, but that wasn’t the case in their relationship.”

On August 8, the police started a huge search. At first, Groom was charged with aggravated assault and battery against a pregnant woman, domestic assault and battery, and threatening a witness.

But the investigation grew worse very rapidly. When police told the groom they would search his grandparents’ house on County Street in Rehoboth, he is reported to have confessed.

According to prosecutor Jason Mohan, Groom admitted to stabbing Kylee twice in the neck and once in the chest with a kitchen knife that shattered during the fight. Then he dragged her body about 20 yards away and buried it about five feet deep.

The alleged confession
Mohan said that Groom even drew a “simple map” for the police to show them where the grave was. Later, search teams found a disturbed area of ground that had been hidden by bushes and trees that had been cut down and stacked up near the shed.

Even though he was said to have confessed, Groom still said he was innocent and stayed in jail without bail. He will go back to court on September 10 for a hearing to see if there is enough evidence to charge him.

Monteiro graduated from Attleboro High School earlier this summer. We still don’t know if the child she was carrying was Groom’s.

“I love her so much because she was so kind and loving.” “My daughter was her best friend,” said Kira Schofield, a family friend.

“She wanted to be a mother.” “She was so happy,” Schofield told CBS News.

Faith Monteiro, who is still grieving, said:

“I lost my sister and will never see her again, talk to her, say goodbye, or tell her I love her.”

People adored animals.
Faith says that Kylee loves animals and is a really joyful person.

“She is very nice.” She is pretty. “She really was just a happy person,” Faith said. “She cared about other people.”

Tom Quinn, the Bristol County District Attorney, extended his condolences to the family.

“Of course, this is a very hard time for them.” Even if they are in pain, convey your condolences and advise them to be patient.

People in the region are going to conduct a vigil for Kylee. There will be a Vigil of Hope for Kylee Monteiro at Redway Plain & The Veterans Memorial Gazebo in Rehoboth on Saturday, August 23, at 7 PM.
