The cemetery was very quiet, as if the earth itself were holding its breath. The sky was dark and gloomy over the trees, and a few droplets of rain dropped on the freshly dug grave. There were only a few of the child’s closest family members there. No one wanted to make a big deal out of the funeral of an eight-year-old girl. In the middle of the night, the girl died suddenly. Even though there had been no signs earlier, doctors concluded it was a congenital heart problem.
Her mother, who was dressed completely in black, held a wet cloth in her hands and shook her lips. The father was standing close, staring at one location in silence, as if he didn’t know what was going on. The child’s coffin, which was draped in roses, didn’t go in with the somber countryside.
The wind made it hard to hear the priest as he read a prayer. A family member put a cuddly teddy bear in the coffin. Even in the hospital, the daughter had it with her. People looked down, and someone quietly cried.
When they began to lower the coffin into the ground, there was a strange crack, like if a tree had fallen nearby. A few individuals turned around, but they couldn’t say anything. Flames poured out from behind the coffin lid in less than a second.
The crowd stopped moving. Someone yelled:
— Fire!
The woman in black fell asleep. The family hurried to the fire and used a jacket to try to put it out. The gravediggers rushed to get a fire extinguisher, but it was too late.
Later, the family was shocked to find out what had started the fire. 😱😱
The flame was a bright orange-blue color and covered the whole top of the wooden coffin in a strange fashion.
The first person to respond was a laborer at the cemetery who used to be a firefighter. He yelled to raise the coffin again.
Two men seized the ropes and pulled the burning casket out with a lot of effort. In a few minutes, the fire went out.
When the lid was opened, the girl’s body was fine. There were no burns on her or her clothes. People were stunned. The police looked at the charred casket.
Three days later, a report said that the fire was started by a lithium battery sewn into the stuffed teddy bear that was put in the coffin.
The toy turned out to have a nightlight function. When the lid was hot and heavy, it went off like a fuse.
But a lot of people still said, “The girl was trying to say something…”
