Princess Charlotte’s Touching Tribute to the Queen Turns Heads at Trooping the Colour

Posted on June 25, 2025

At the 2025 Trooping the Colour, everyone looked at Princess Charlotte as she was entering a royal symbolism, a moment of family love. It can only be described as a strong symbol of nobility and a clear reference to her late great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II, thanks to a single, subtle but symbolic move at the tender age of 10 years old. She also wore a light teal dress and diamond horseshoe brooch, a heavily sentimental piece particularly accounted to heritage. The brooch which had been given originally by the late Queen to Charlotte has a history of its own going back many generations. It was believed to have belonged to Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother before transferring and it was mostly prominent on the attire of the coat of Charlotte during the funeral of the Queen in 2022.

The horseshoe-shaped brooch is a symbolic piece because it depicts the lifetime interest that Queen Elizabeth II had on horses and horse activities. Last-minute check-in before the A-list event makes one believe there was something different about the approach to the high-profile event, as indeed that is the first sign that Charlotte might have known she had the responsibility of a royal person to consider in front of so many people. Furthermore, the personal feelings to honor the memory of the previous monarch have played a huge part in the symbolism of the event, too. People paid attention to her minor tribute, as it touched not only the royal viewers but even the audience.

In a lovely fashion reference, Charlotte twinned with her mother, the Princess of Wales, who also wore a Catherine Walker (a long-time royal favourite designer) coat dress in skyblue. To finish off her ensemble, Kate had a firm hat by Juliette Botterill, a popular milliner to the royal crowd. Even her jewels meant a great deal: the Irish Guards regimental brooch marked her colonelcy, which was honorary, the Bahrain Pearl Drop the earrings that had been given to Queen Elizabeth II in 1947 as a wedding present. The persistence of memory, the sense of continuity, and legacy, the story was stitched of these considerate details.

The latest Trooping the Colour marked the official birthday of King Charles III and promulgated a millennium-old military tradition with a complete ceremonial splash. It featured over 1,400 troops, 200 horses and hundreds of musicians marching down the Mall in a magnificent portrait of British pageantry. There was also a flypast by the RAF Red Arrows which summoned cheers of the people who were all along the route and the people who were watching the Royal Family appear on the balcony of the Buckingham Palace.

King Charles modified his experience in the event as a result of his current treatment of cancer by not moving on a horse but in a carriage. The fact that his presence (though in a altered form) was present was an attempt to show he believed in the monarchy and its traditions.

Several members of the royal family were significantly absent in tandem with the further vision of the monarch to have a minimalist royal family. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle did not attend and neither did Prince Andrew and his daughters, in yet further evidence of how King Charles III wishes to center major royal duties on a small circle of working royals.

Trooping the Colour is still an iconic scene in the royal diary, representing all of that: tradition, duty, and changing family relationships. In this year a quiet tribute of Princess Charlotte was one of the most personal moments, the touching message of how strong the impact of Queen Elizabeth II and how it was focused on all other Royal Family members, especially the younger generations.
