Dairy Queen’s Logo Has a Clever Design Detail You May Have Missed

Summer can be too hot at times, and the only solution that can help the situation is a single thing. A visit to Dairy Queen is that. I recall the days when we used to cramp ourselves in the vehicle with my siblings. We kept on stoking that anticipation by waiting to be given our sweet, icey treat. When we detected a glimpse of the sign, a huge ellipse of red and white that was a bit askew, we were aware that it was near by. Their ice cream was not all about this. It was the logo, the sign of the sunny and cheerful world, where everyone understood that he or she could expect something nice to eat.

 

 

Here is the joke about it. The logo, which, over the years, has been the badge of happiness in our lives is not a mere design or color picked out of the blue. A lot of things that one would not have known with only the taste of the Dilly Bar or the Blizzard. Frankly speaking, it did not matter much to me. At least, I did not pay much attention to it when I was a child. The logo was just present, apparent and unnoticeable like the soft-serve ice cream that it advocates. However, later on in high school I started to have my doubts about what the symbols that I saw on a daily basis meant. Why is the Dairy Queen Logo so special? Is it new or old fashioned? and just what is the message of it, anyhow?

 

 

 

 

The dairy Queen logo has changed with the year of its establishment as a company began in 1940. Later the company changed its initial logo. When the company first opened its doors in Joliet, Illinois the logo was very different form the one that it has married to this current date and rather simple as it consisted only of a word mark with the letters spelled the word Dairy Queen and the font used was a standard one that did not claim to be anything other than it was. It was slang when one referred to an area that one could get one of the best soft serve ice creams around.

 

 

Through a period of time, the logo has undergone changes by the designers so as to improve the brand image. This is the reason why it needs updates. They polished the logo in the 1950s and put their title infrastructured within an ellipse that leans a little on its right side. It represented a major critical shift. It began the creation of Dairy Queen brand which has a special image to itself. The ellipse was skewed not only to make it look different. It gave an impression that the logo is moving. This is equivalent to speedy and good services of any Dairy Queen restaurant.

 

 

 

 

The corporation released a logo in 1960 which it would continue using several years. This was the most familiar one. It contained the red disc, on which it wrote the letters Dairy Queen in a clear and classy font. Nevertheless, some people have taken the oval shape of this logo as two lips. This makes the trademark friendly and accepting as though the brand is smiling at the customer. This is the logo which we most of us were familiar with in our childhood. It was associated by people with the flavor of an ice cream in a hot summer day. The design itself was plain with nothing special to notice. But it was pretty, respectable and comfortable, and that was all right.

 

 

The logo that is familiar till today was slightly altered in the later 1990s and the early 2000s by Dairy Queen. In its place the initials of DQ appeared. In 2001 the company concluded that something was a bit outdated about the logo. The red ellipse had blue and orange curved lines above and below the ellipse that contained the text namely DQ. The lines were not merely decorative, but they were symbolizing the hot and cold line. Ice cream is blue, and the hot cuisines orange. Placing pictures that showed the various products that Dairy Queen deals with was a good idea.

 

 

 

 

The red ellipse and the blue and orange swooshing are already still utilized by the present DQ logo you may find printed on the signs and vessels and all the wrappings in any of the DQ restaurants and shop. You may not even see the design on surface but there is really a lot to it. The heritage of the brand is expressed by the red ellipse. This is why it remains to be the central component of the logo. This is further pointed out by the swooshes that say that the brand has always remained quality-oriented. The shape is one that has been familiarized and popular. People could relate it easily with Dairy Queen when they see the image. And yes, the lips icon still holds on to the warm, friendly and fun-filled characteristics of DQ.

 

 

The blue and orange swooshes also have a certain meaning of their colors. The blue swoosh is the obvious sign of what sells this brand ice cream, sundaes, Blizzards, and the other frozen treats. When the company added the orange swoosh that meant hot products, this design became an important feature in the DQ restaurant menu.In a nutshell, these swooshes portray a company that does not only deal with ice creams, but also food. The hot, the cold, and what is between these two.

 

 

 

 

The scheme of colors applied in the logo should also be mentioned because it is the crucial element of the design. Red color is the symbol of energy, love and enthusiasm. This is the perception that DQ would want a person to make whenever they happen upon their products. The blue brings out a feel of tranquility and re-birth. It is something that is in concurrence to the feeling that one develops after ice cream. The orange is never dull and lifeless. It assists to unite everything and provides it with a little bit of cheerfulness.

 

 

DQ logo is an illustration of a brand that was come up in Illinois state of America as a small store, and an international brand. When I see this red ellipse each time, the past memory comes to my mind, the summer childhood holidays. It is a logo which has been embraced by the current generation and has not lost the initial idea of DQ.

 

 

 

 

The next time you purchase a blizzard or a cup of coffee with the red emblem logo, take time to admire what went in to developing that symbol. It is not a mere inscription. It is the declaration of something good, something that has bringing people happiness since the past 80 years plus.
