Stephen A. Smith Doesn’t Rule Out Participating in the 2028 Presidential Election
Instead of his sports opinions, ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith has made headlines lately for entertaining the idea of running for president in 2028.
In a recent interview with Speedy Morman from Complex, Smith said he hasn’t decided on anything yet but hasn’t ruled it out. Smith said, “I am not switching jobs.” “After consulting with my pastor and numerous others, I’ve decided to keep the door open as a possibility, so that’s what I’m doing,” he said.
🧩 Serious Ideas Presented in a Fun Way
Although keeping open the possibility, Smith cracked a joke about what it would cost him personally. “Costwise, it would make no sense,” he joked, since politics pays little compared to what he now earns in front of the camera.
Yet, Smith wasn’t completely against the concept. If he thinks the situation is critical and lots of people ask him, he promised he might consider it—but only if there’s no other obvious candidate.
🎞️ From Sports to Topics that Matter
Because of his bold style on ESPN’s First Take, Smith has taken part in more national and social debates. Kanye says he doesn’t want to be a politician and has never considered it, but he has realized that many are urging him to serve in a government position.
Earlier in the year, Smith said that both politicians and businesspeople had expressed interest in him starting a campaign. On the one hand, he was moved by the encouragement, but he added that staying in public service and encouraging others on issues is his main goal.
Being Open about Leadership
Smith has used his time on television to speak about leadership and how to be a good leader in different arenas. At one point on Real Time with Bill Maher, he stressed both trust and a deliberate vision are important regardless of whether someone is an athlete, analyst or leader.
“For me, the best candidate has to get the job,” Smith mentioned. We’ll simply have to wait and see if that person is me or someone else.
What Is The Next Step For Education?
Smith is now mainly interested in broadcasting, but his positive impact and interest in discussing serious matters indicate his voice might have a bigger influence outside sports.
The fact that the 2028 election is not yet here has not stopped Smith from being more open, thoughtful and having a wider range of involvement with the public.
What we still don’t know, however, is if Simpson will eventually run for president? Smith believes we have yet to uncover whether this will happen.
