Rock icon Ozzy Osbourne and his wife, Sharon Osbourne, made news in August 2022 when they declared their intention to leave the United States and move permanently back to the United Kingdom after more than 20 years in Los Angeles.
The couple’s main reasons for making the choice were their worries about the political atmosphere in America and the continuous gun carnage. However, the Osbournes are still in the United States almost two years later, and they discussed the reasons for the extended wait in a recent edition of The Osbournes Podcast that aired on Tuesday, July 16.
When asked about their much-discussed move, Ozzy, 75, replied, “We’re trying to get on a flight.” It turns out that the Black Sabbath frontman’s ongoing health issues are more to blame for the delay than practicalities. Ozzy’s health problems have constantly disrupted their intentions to return to the UK, Sharon, 71, explained.
Ozzy disclosed that in just five years, he has had an incredible seven surgeries in a January podcast interview. As part of a continuing effort to treat difficulties associated to a 2003 diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease, he underwent his fourth spinal procedure in September 2023. His health continues to be a major challenge in spite of the treatments and specialist visits.
“It just seems like something happens with Ozzy’s health every time we’re set to go,” Sharon said openly. She is still hopeful, though. During Tuesday’s program, she added, “We’ll get there.” “We’ll get there, but we really want to go back.” Ozzy, won’t we? Ozzy merely said, “Yeah,” to which Sharon reassured him gently, “We will.”
In his 2022 interview with The Observer, Ozzy expressed his dissatisfaction with the nation’s escalating violence and polarizing politics, making it clear that he wanted to depart the United States. At the moment, he remarked, “Everything’s f—— ridiculous there.”
“I’m tired of seeing people slain every single day. The number of people shot in school shootings is unknown. Additionally, there was the mass shooting at that event in Vegas. It’s f—— insane. “I don’t want to die in America,” was his succinct and moving conclusion. F—— Forest Lawn is not where I want to be buried. I speak English. I’d like to return. It’s time for me to return home.
Like her husband, Sharon bemoaned how the United States had changed from the country they had previously called home. “America has undergone such profound upheaval. In no way is it the United States of America. There is nothing common to it. Right now, it’s a really strange place to live,” she remarked.
The Osbournes had stated in a 2022 article in The Observer that they intended to return to the UK by February 2023. Even plans to move to their historic Grade II-listed Buckinghamshire estate were initiated by the couple. According to reports, Ozzy’s older children from his first marriage to Thelma Riley, Jessica and Louis, as well as their children, Kelly, 39; Jack, 38; and Aimee, 40, supported the move.
However, life had other ideas in spite of their public declarations and obvious intentions. The couple’s goal of going back to their own country has been repeatedly postponed due to Ozzy’s health issues, which are still unstable. They stay in Los Angeles for the time being, hoping that the next phase of their lives, one that is based in English soil and familiar surroundings, is still attainable.
Their hearts are already back in the UK, as Sharon stated. All they need to do now is wait for the ideal time and strength to catch up.
