In a remote area of Victoria’s highlands, the bodies of two female hikers have been uncovered.
Two additional hikers saw the terrible scene outside Cleve Cole Hut, which is near Lendenfeld Point in Nelse, just before 1 p.m. on Friday. They asked for help right away.
The hikers called Triple Zero, and the police, the Search and Rescue Squad, and the police Air Wing quickly proceeded to the remote spot.
No one has publicly named the two women, who are presumed to be in their 20s or 30s.
Detectives assume they might have gone to the picturesque mountains to hike and camp.
Police said there are no missing women in the neighborhood, but they need help from the public to find the two.
Because of terrible weather and hard-to-reach places, specialist cops will stay overnight.
They should be able to receive the bodies back on Saturday.
Two bodies were found near Cleve Cole Hut, a popular place to hike in Victoria.
According to the police, the two hikers are probably women in their 20s and 30s. (file)
Right now, investigators don’t think the deaths are peculiar.
The police said that the event has nothing to do with the search for Dezi Freeman, who is considered to be a gunman and has been missing since August 26.
People last saw Freeman at Porepunkah, which is about 70 km from Nelse.
