ECOCD and ECODVD DISCS with LOW CARBON FOOTPRINT

An initial analysis of the EcoCD carbon footprint was carried out at the manufacturing plant by Software Logistics. Their calculations indicate 22% reduction in raw material, 19% reduction in energy required during production, approximating to 21% cut in CO2 emissions compared to the manufacture of the standard CD. EcoCD ecological benefits are significant and replication costs are competitive compared to the standard CD. The EcoCD works in all PC and MAC computers with tray and slot disc drives. The EcoCD also works in all standard CD players and car CD slot drives.

The EcoDVD disc is manufactured using half the raw materials of the standard DVD-5 and delivers a remarkable 52% reduction in Carbon Footprint compared to the the standard DVD-5. Replication costs of the ecological EcoDVD-5 are highly competitive with the Standard DVD-5 replication costs. The performance of the EcoDVD is equal to the stantard DVD-5 and the EcoDVD provides a superior working disc life, enhanced mechanical flexibility and robustness, and most importantly, a greatly enahanced ecological profile in manufacture, transport and is 100% recyclable. There is no rational reason to provide the standard DVD-5 when the ECODVD environmental benefits clearly exceed the standard DVD-5 and the replication costs are attractive.

Additional Information

  • The second polycarbonate layer present only in the standard DVD-5 is there to handle additional data on a DVD9 or DVD10 and provides no additional protective function. There is only one layer in the ECODVD-5.
  • The polymer lacquer surface on an ECODVD protects the data area and gives it a longer lifetime than a standard DVD-5. This polymer can also be brushed away for recycling unlike a normal DVD-5.
  • Theoretically two bonded substrates in a standard DVD-5 might break if the bonding is not processed 100% perfectly, whereas the ECODVD-5 single substrate layer is not subject to this type of differential bonding. This technology has been well tested in the ECODVD and is also well proven in the production of CD-ROM and CD-Audio.
  • ECODVD-5 plays in all current players. There is a small ejection issue with Apple Mac's which used a Matshita slot -in drive. This is because these Matshita slot-in drives do not respect the specifications of the DVD forum, not because of the ECODVD.
  • ECODVD-5 can be played in all drives that match the specifications of the DVD forum. So the PS3 plays ECODVD just as it plays DVD.
