DVD-Video Lock offers an innovative approach to providing highly effective DVD-Video copy control. This DVD technology provides an affordable DVD-Video copy protection method to protect valuable assets. Copy protected discs can be supplied in both small and large quantities and is ideally suitable for individual projects, authoring studios and independent movie production companies.

The data files on a DVD-Video disc are protected using a passive software solution. This encapsulates the files, preventing any unauthorised access to disc content by common ripping programs, thus providing a high level of digital copy protection. Since copy control is applied in areas of the disc that are not read by DVD players during playback, the original media content is not modified in any way and play-back quality remains unaffected.

SecuROM™ is Sony's copy protection solution for publishers to protect their software on DVD. An electronic keycode is applied to each disc to differentiate an authentic DVD-ROM from a pirated copy. The software will only start if there is an original disc in the drive. SecuROM prevents 1:1 copies to DVD-Recordables as well as the ripping of the content to CD-R.

The basis of Sony's n-DVD technology is an unique identification number which is printed on each optical disc during the production process. When the disc is loaded for the first time, a Secure Web Link automatically directs the user to a specific web site, and an online authentication process verifies the ID number.

n-DVD technology connects existing, offline digital media directly with specific websites on the internet. By pairing the Secure Web Link and the unique identification number, only 'original CDs' are granted access to specific websites and to the special premium content. This innovative n-DVD concept facilitates adding extra value to conventional optical media. Only this technology guarantees the user the advantage of accessing specific content which is directly linked to an original DVD.
